CODY MCKAY MOTORSPORTS TO DRIVE A CARBON NEUTRAL RACE AT THE NEWCASTLE 500
Cody McKay Motorsports today announced that they are geared up to drive a carbon neutral race at this year’s 2019 Coates Hire Newcastle 500.
The team’s carbon neutrality is all thanks to the efforts of Zenviron, Cody McKay Motorsport’s major sponsor. Zenviron is a highly experienced, full-service balance-of-plant contractor specializing in the design and construction of large scale renewable energy projects such as wind and solar farms in Australia and New Zealand. After calculating the carbon output of Cody’s Aussie Racing car on the Newcastle track, Zenviron purchased carbon credits from Greenfleet biodiverse program - Australia’s most respected source of biodiverse native carbon offsets.
“We were excited to be coming onboard as a sponsor for the team,” explained Carl Keating, Zenviron Manager, “but we knew that we had to find a way to combine our personal interest in motorsport with our firm’s passion for sustainability and the environment. By carbon offsetting the race we are able to practise Zenviron’s values while still supporting an event that brings so much to the city of Newcastle.”
Zenviron has calculated that Cody McKay Motorsport’s 6 races at the Newcastle 500 will produce a total of 01 tonnes of CO2-e. To offset these emissions Greenfleet will be planting 4 native trees in a biodiverse forest. As well as offsetting greenhouse gas, this action is helping to improve water quality, reduce soil degradation and provide essential habitat for native wildlife.
“It may seem like a small act, but we know its all part of the bigger movement,” says Aly Brody, Manager of Cody McKay Motorsports, “as a team, we’re fully aware of the petrol-guzzling, dirty image that people often associate with motorsport, but we believe that if we focus instead on ways the sport can be used to support and give back to the environment, we’d be better for it.”
Cody McKay Motorsports will be hitting the track this 22-24 November at the Newcastle Coates Hire 500.
